MOESIA INFERIOR, Nicopolis ad Istrum. Elagabalus. AD 218-222. Æ Tetrassarion (27mm, 12.36 g, 6h). Novius Rufus, legatus Augusti pro praetore. Struck AD 218-219. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / River-god Istros reclining left, holding reed and resting elbow on urn from which water flows, placing hand on ship beside him. HH&J 8.26.32.5; AMNG 1952 var. (obv. legend); RPC VI Online 1267; Varbanov 4054 var. (same). Earthen green patina, flan and surface cracks. Near VF. Rare.
